Summary:
The Director of Composition and Intake is responsible for operational excellence across our global document composition and work intake teams. These teams deliver services 24/7 for time-sensitive, corporate and fund regulatory documents. This role reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operational Services and includes travel in the US and to our offshore vendors.
Operational Services is charged with optimizing production across a global platform to deliver quality and time-sensitive output while optimizing costs. This role will achieve these goals for Composition and Intake through leadership of internal and offshore production teams, and partnership with other cross-functional leaders and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Operational Services
- Lead and oversee 24/7 production teams and client deliverables for DFIN’s bespoke composition system and the work intake processes
- Optimize production results for quality, delivery and cost, using data and data analytics tools.
- Quantify financial and non-financial impacts to define strategic platform decisions
- Initiate and lead troubleshooting and process improvement initiatives for short-term and long-term actions
- Conduct regular meetings with production teams, including offshore, and management for review of operational metrics and delivery of improvement plans.
- Interpret metrics and trends to understand evolving business and make appropriate management decisions using data and data analytics tools. Effectively communicate interpretations to executive leadership. Identify and assist in, or resolve, issues and opportunities for growth and cost savings
- Ensure business impact and project or process objectives are identified, documented and managed for achievement. Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks.
- Balance multiple competing objectives and effectively prioritize to align capacity and resources as production and organizational strategies evolve.
- Compose and deliver presentations with limited guidance from leadership
- 15% travel, in addition to annual international/offshore travel is required
- Flexibility of hours to align with East Cost timezone

Employee/Team Development
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence for stakeholders and other operational team members. This includes supporting the use of process improvement methodologies (ex: Six Sigma, Lean, Value Stream Mapping) and technical skills such as data analytics, process mapping, process optimization and creating presentations
- Lead operational rigor across Composition and Intake by utilizing consistent project execution, process review and improvement approaches
- Lead execution of projects using the operational pillars of simplification, standardization, leveraging software & technology, creating actionable metrics, and focusing on value; all while keeping our data and people safe
- Develop trusted relationships with key stakeholders, enabling issues and opportunities to be addressed with a spirit of partnership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or 6 + years in a similar role
- Knowledge of composition and desktop publishing technology is a plus
- Knowledge of SEC corporate reporting requirement is a plus
- Proven experience leading production teams, including offshore, in a dynamic environment to meet demanding 24/7 schedules, while maintaining quality and cost targets
- Proven experience as an escalation step to resolve time-critical operational issues to meet client deliverables
- Proven experience managing multi-layered budgets and modeling operational plans to create and deliver budget targets
- Proven experience identifying and leading continuous improvement plans that deliver innovation and measurable business value
- Proven experience creating, deciphering, organizing and presenting complex data to track performance and, as a result, defining measurable action plans for short-term and long-term improvement
- Proven experience synthesizing and simplifying complex concepts/requirements to the team and stakeholders and tie back to business objectives
- Proven experience creating and delivering metric-driven activity reporting tailored to a variety of audiences including operational teams, clients, management and executive leadershi
- Proven employee development, leadership, teamwork and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Proven agility in managing competing objectives and solving ambiguous problems that are consistently new and challenging
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), PowerBI, and process mapping tools such as Visio
- Lean, Six Sigma, PMP Certified, or comparable certification is a plus
- Proficient in process mapping and process optimization with the ability to coach direct reports on such skills.
- Highly proficient in data compilation, data analysis, and Excel modeling
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
