What a QA Automation Engineer does

An excellent QA Automation Engineer has eyes like a hawk, and solid experience in the art and science of test planning, design, scripting, and diagnosis.

The goal is to assure the high quality of our software and ensuring it ships doing what we say it will do. You will be responsible for inspecting procedures and outputs, identifying bugs and issues where the software does not perform to spec. A first-class test framework will provide a statistical basis for important quality decisions about the products our customers rely on to do their business. Your word will influence go/no-go decisions about product releases.

The ideal candidate thinks like a QA analyst, dreams like a code architect, and works diligently to maintain the high quality of our industry-leading machine learning product.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate test and automation activities independently.
  • Ensure coverage of regression tests, integration tests, performance tests, smoke tests, and more.
  • Review quality specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases following company standards within required timeframes
  • Perform thorough manual regression testing when technical issues are resolved and know how to automate those tests.
  • Design, develop, update and run new tests using common-sense engineering logic typically, 5 to 20 per week

Responsibilities (Cont.)

  • Record and document debugging procedures.
  • Track test metrics, such as test coverage, defect densities, and open defect counts, to gain and share insights about quality issues.
  • Provide detailed reports, analytics, and go/no-go feedback about Product technical issues to the Product Owner and the CTO and engineering team to ensure immediate action.
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing approaches, tools and test strategies.
  • Design tests based on Agile specifications for functionality and expected behavior.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability in writing test plans, ensuring that the required specifications are thoroughly tested
  • At least 6 years proven work experience in QA with an emphasis on QA automation.
  • Hands-on experience on systems using Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, Serenity, and JUnit, with fluent Java coding and scripting skills (certified-original code samples required).
  • Proficient with concepts and practice in creating automated tests: loops, passing parameters, feeding parameters to test procedures via files, and reusable modules (skills test required).
  • Strong knowledge of software test and automation methodologies, tools and processes
  • Strong ability to communicate with team members about areas affecting clients and determining appropriate timeframes for releases
  • Can write clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases to spec (certified-original examples required)

Requirements (Cont.)

  • Able to work in an Agile/Scrum process.
  • Minimum BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Able to work full-time in NYC (Role will be remote through Q1/2021).
  • Pluses:
    • Some knowledge of cloud-based application architecture and principles.
    • Understanding of data analysis/statistical methods.
    • Experience with performance and/or security testing
    • Proven ability to quickly learn, critique and improve procedures and concepts.
